Yordan obtained a M.Sc. degree in vetenary science at Forestry University in Sofia, Bulgaria. After which he was a research assistant focusing on honey bees at the Institute of Animal Science – Kostinbrod, Bulgaria. He then went on to researching honey bee diseases at the National Diagnostic and Research Veterinary Medical Institute in Sofia, Bulgaria. Yordan continued on bee diseases at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece. In 2014 he published a scientific article pertaining to reasons of bee losses in a refereed journal (Comptes rendus de l’Academie bulgare des Sciences, 67 (5): 727-732).
His primary research interests are in the area of honey bee pathology. Yordan is particularily interested in researching the mechanisms of natural resistance in honeybees to economically significant diseases such as American Foulbrood, European Foulbrood, varroosis and nosemosis.
Yordan is currently completing a PhD which looks at American Foulbrood (AFB) in South Africa, particularily its epizootiological and clinical aspects on African honey bees.
